there’s this sense that Adam takes comfort in being a pair of Gansey’s magicians with Ronan. Which is interesting because he sometimes is envious of Gansey because he wants to be higher in the food chain (because of ambition but also because he associates that with the safety/security it would provide him) but currently he’s okay with being *second fiddle* if he and Ronan are a team. I think there are multiple factors for that first is his development where he’s realizing there are other things important to him, his growing love for magic itself, his realizations about accepting help and about Gansey not being out to maliciously control him, Gansey respects him as an equal and Adam knows that a little more even if maybe not wholly, are all elements at play. I’m sure it also helps that he has a role with Cabeswater that Gansey doesn’t and feels more equal in that way which makes it easier to *serve* him in this capacity. And then also I think you could look at it as in part that Ronan has become his main non-Cabeswater (and yes Cabeswater is sometimes a metaphor for pynch but it’s also a metaphor for different Adam dynamics at different points and used as a metaphor for his trauma and processing it. so it does count as a separate relationship imo) relationship in terms of emotional support (which is also why the nightmare tree vision came true with Ronan instead of Gansey imo (and is also why as a fic I recently published somewhat argues for I think in the Dream thieves while his relationship with Cabeswater in that book mostly mirrors his trauma in the times when it does serve as a metaphor for a specific dynamic it’s most tied to Gansey)), and therefore he primarily wants to be on equal footing with Ronan the way he wanted to be equals with Gansey in the earlier books, and so he finds it easier to make peace with the dynamic structure if he can be a team with Ronan while still being close to Gansey in some capacity, it’s a more fulfilling balance of his social wants and needs than he expected to get in a sense. (That also puts an interesting pov to Adam going back to competing with / trying to be Gansey in a way when neither he nor Ronan are around him in td3, it’s almost like regressing to a place that feels safe? Is one way to look at it and nothing in td3 contradicts my take because we didn’t get Adam pov at Harvard). And then even aside from these shifting dynamics specifically I just think that a part of Adam really likes the idea of being part of a system / social hierarchy and sees that is a positive thing provided his position is not too low, which … certainly could be an analysis post all to itself but since this is primarily about these dynamics I won’t go too into it here.

The next characters to have their designs done are

Priscilla Pynch and Frankie Greene!

Yes, nothing about Priscilla’s design is practical for a dystopian world with a group thats leading a revolution, however, it was fun. I am having her as a fashion designer, because I feel like it suits her better than trying to take over her moms failed business.

Frankie I have working in the Griffin Rock lab, she also has her PhD and she is constantly working with Raf and Ezra to work on the new battle mecha suits that Jack and Miko are going to use. At some point, during a lab accident, her right arm needs to be amputated. Which means she gets to have full fun with a bionic arm. She designed and created her own prosthetic, which is fully connected to her nervous system, allowing her complete control of what the hand and arm does. Her adjustment to this change is pretty easy due to this fact.

While they are mostly background characters within the story, I still want them to play a vital role within the overarching story. I don't know at this point in time if they will live on Cybertron once the revolution is done and over with, but whatever choice will definitely be emotional for everyone.

How people could *hate* Adam like that is wild. But I remember last year when she finally quit Twitter- the very last thing she tweeted before she turned her account into an updated account was this Twitter thread that was all “hey thanks for loving pynch but sometimes I can’t always write about your fave thing”… the next day she left, so I assume the response was rough 😵‍💫

yeah it’s mad. i only started reading the books around the time bllb came out and i was never active in the fandom until trk came out so i can’t really say i saw that many people hating adam back then. maybe a few people who found his chapters boring/depressing but no one who hated him. obviously now that i’ve been part of this fandom for a while i’ve definitely seen some fans who fit that description lol

also mm yes i think i remember that. i guess quite a few people after cdth came out were more invested in adam/ronan as a pairing than in adam and ronan as individual characters. i’m not really sure what happened tbh but i do know people on twitter tend to cross the line a lot so that would make sense. kind of wish social media didn’t play such a big role in the outcome of the books by the end, but it is what it is i guess:/

its so funny because maggie said oh there wont be pynch or relationship stuff in the trilogy (imo its not relationship drama, i mean yes, ronan was kind of acting shitty and he needs to talk to adam and apologise, but thats not really relationship drama...) but just like.... how HUGE of a part adam is playing and like you said, not in the crappy way of "oh my life only revolves around adam/ronan" no, they both love and respect each other so much that they want the best for the other and support each other, and they can have their education or jobs purpose whatever while still finding themselves and figuring out the future and be in a relationship and figure it out together. they clearly love each other and want the future together. i just always am amazed at how huge of a part maggie let adam play in a very respecting and enjoyable and realistic way and that ronans future is adam anyway ugh ok bye gonna cry now

I dont remember if I every replied to this but its sitting on my drafts for ages so if I havent im sorry this is so late!! 

I mean honestly I cant believe we fell for that. of course she is going to say that, she wants to keep us in suspense. and I dont know how much of adam's role was planned pre-trc and how much of it was recently, but I remember something she recently said (on reddit? on twitter? idk) about how when she was initially planning the series no one wanted adam in it (which? WHY) and just?? can you imagine that? can you imagine adam not being in the book?? who would drive the plot??) 

fr tho I must admit I did think (hope) that adam would be present more, simply because I didnt think it is in adam's character to know that ronan is in danger or even just missing and not do whatever he can to save him. I mean, this is adam parrish we are talking about. he sacrificed his autonomy (the most valuable thing to him) to save his friends, he complained against his dad despite knowing it will leave him homeless and ruin everything he has planned to save ronan, he came up with the plan to save gansey minutes after being possessed by a demon and undergoing several very traumatic experience all in one go. so I saw two options: either adam is very present in the book (despite mstief keep saying he won't be) or adam goes against his entire character by basically not giving a shit. but maggie found a pretty good middle ground and I was very pleasantly surprised. (im sorry I went completely off track there I dont even remember what my main point was)

in terms of the relationship drama, oh boy do I have things to say. so much to say. but the bottom line is exactly what you said. I define relationship drama as "I am confused I dont know what I want im not sure if I want you, you're not sure if you want me" and lots of miscommunication and misunderstandings. I dont really think it's any of that in this case. they know they love each other. they're at a crossroads because ronan thinks adam not supporting him or trusting bryde is personal, but it's a simple enough issue to solve once ronan is ready to listen. he wasn't in mi - even if he hadn't disconnected the call and adam had managed to explain everything, I dont think Ronan would have still understood it. some things you need to figure out for yourself, and ronan's arc is about exactly that. they're idiots but they'll get there.

and essentially, isn’t that what a good relationship is supposed to be? you cant ever solve your partner’s problems, and no matter how much you might love each other just that is not enough. their love for each other is never in doubt, but ronan’s self-love is. I think that lace chapter is a very good illustration of that. ronan knows he wants a future with adam, but he also knows he wants a future where that isnt just the night wash and the hiding who he is and being constantly afraid that he’s one wrong move away from wiping out half his family.  and though his love for adam or his want of a future with him doesnt waver, at this point ronan doesnt think that he gets to keep both futures. he thinks he has to choose one, because he cant ask adam to give up his future instead. what kind of future can he give adam with this new purpose he has? and also he knows adam won’t approve, and he needs adam to. I dont think that is relationship drama. more like ‘deep rooted issues that have been there for years but I have been denying but now im being forced to face them and I need to do this alone’. I have absolutely no doubt they’re going to find their way back to each other because otherwise what is the point. the idea of adam being the future ronan is working towards has been iterated too much for them to break up. neither of them are defined by their relationship obviously, but the way ronan’s arc has been set up there is no feasible way Maggie can give ronan a happy ending without adam being there too.

Adam to play a more on screen role. I don't think I'll get this to the extent I really would love, but I do honestly see how it might happen. His whole thing is wanting to be normal, and now the ley line is gone and that could actually be completely true for him. No more magic. This plays perfectly into his arc, that he'd have to *choose* magic this time.

Pynch reunited. They didn't break up. They're on opposite sides of a moral dilemma, but they obviously still love each other.

least favorite character: Ezra Fitz. Byron Montgomery is in second place which makes sense as they are practically the same person 💀

brOTP: I’ll say Spanna even though I also like them romantically, and Spencer and Jason have a really interesting dynamic as siblings/foils that I appreciate a lot

OTP: Vandermarin and Spemily, Vandermarin’s probably #1 ultimately because they’re soo the canon love story of Pll… but Spemily is so underrated imo and it’s my favorite Spencer ship and Spencer’s my favorite character so that gives it something extra for me. 3rd place is Spencer x Mona

OT3: going to say Hanna/Mona/Alison is ultimately the most fascinating one to me in the narrative but I’m open to a lot of different poly combinations with this show

NOTP: I don’t like any of the main het pairings but especially not Ezria

favorite storyline: Spencer’s 3b arc and Spencer’s 4b arc I love when my fave is suffering and in a spiral it’s fascinating xd. 4b is probably my favorite section of the show period between the Spencer addiction plot (which definitely has it’s issues in the writing but Troian is just fantastic playing it), Shadow Play, the EzrA stuff and Aria’s processing which I find very engaging especially in She’s Come Undone, it’s also where Emily/Alison is most interesting to me because of the attention given to Emily processing her feelings (attention that it never given again after this :/) Hanna stepping into the role of detective more than Spencer and Spencer and Emily’s fights so a lot of interesting shifts in dynamics caused by them knowing Ali is alive now, Ali’s coded diary… I just love it in all it’s messiness xd.

least favorite storyline: Ezria and the deadnaming both were terrible. A lot of post time jump storylines

what I wish had happened but didn’t: Ezra going to jail, men being held accountable for literally anything, for the writers to care more or at all the last two seasons I think anything even slightly good that happens post time jump is thanks to the actors and not the writers and even most of them seemed tired

what happened that I wish hadn’t: Ezra/Aria endgame male chars being given unwarranted grace in general

OT3: there is a lot of poly shipping potential in this series… Blue x Gansey x Henry is practically canon and I love them but I also am very into Gansey x Blue x Noah and Adam x Gansey x Blue… and Ronan x Adam x Gansey is also good…

NOTP: Ronan x Kavinsky less because it’s toxic I’ve shipped worse more because again the fandom is annoying

favorite storyline: the entirety of Blue Lily Lily Blue there’s so much in that book I adore, Persephone mentoring Adam, Blue and Calla scenes and Blue’s internal conflict while her mother is missing, Gwenllian and her dynamic with Blue and learning more about mirror abilities/what Blue is, Adam’s character arc in that book in general, so many of my favorite Bluesey and Pynch scenes and Persephone’s death is a gut punch that really works and the title… I love it :).

least favorite storyline: the ending of TRK is kind of anticlimactic even though I still love it like the other books

what I wish had happened but didn’t: Blue’s arc to have better closure in book 4

what happened that I wish hadn’t: the whole Adam and Ronan being racist to Henry part :/

Been reading a lot lately so there are some books I’m interested in bringing to life through writing. (Can do aus of them as well) 21+ and on discord. All characters would be aged up to over 18 just because I’m more comfortable with that.

1) All That’s Left In The World - would love to explore them just figuring shit out after the apocalypse. Can write either Andrew or Jamie

2) the raven cycle/dreams trilogy - mostly interested in Pynch but not opposed to Gansey with Adam or Ronan (or anything with Noah) open to who I play here as well but my experience has been with Ronans open to aus or canon

3) All For The Game - Andriel. I can only write for Neil. Or I can write for Jean against Kevin or Jeremy. Open to AUs or canon.

4) So This Is Ever After - this one could even be ocs with a plot like this but this story wrecked me I loved it so much. Again can play either role more interested in plot here than the characters specifically but I loved Matt and Arek too.

5) If This Gets Out - also more plot focused that characters so can do Ocs. But love the idea of band boys trying to figure out love on the road while keeping it under wraps and yeah. Can play either if we’re doing Ruben send Zach.

6) In Deeper Waters - I love Tal and Athlen but also wouldn’t mind OCs here. Just a mermaid plot in general I think. Finding a prince (with magic hah) I think I’d prefer the Mermaid role here (or Athlen) but I’m open.

7) Legendborn - I’m open to Bree and Nick but also interested in Nick and Sel. Or OCs with a similar plot line I just love King Arthur lore a lot.

question #1: But like…. I know pynch have a hell of a lot to work through but maggie explicitly said she didn’t spend 4 books to build up their relationship just to break them up in the dreamer trilogy. I dont see that happening tbh. I think it’s mostly for suspense and to make us suffer but i am really thinking and hoping they will be at a point where they find their way back to each others and work through everything to be together

question #2: I understand maggie wants to portray the relationship in a realistic way and lbr they both have a lot to work through. BUT. i still hope she won’t break them up. Imo that would be the worst. I personally would ignore that canon fact completely if it would happen. But i dont see it happening tbh. I think it’s mostly for drama and suspense? And that she shows „hey these 2 idiots are very much in love but they need to work through a lot“ and that they will start from a completely different place in their relationship where they can grow and actually be together

question #3: I think there's gonna be some major character development in adam realising he has to be honest and accepting his past and ronan working on his insecurity and realising he can have both the safe dream space AND adam and that both realise they need to communicate and that they both WANT to be with each other and they know where they stand in each other's lives. That would both be a huge character development and logical. It's not sunshine and roses but it's realistic and still has a good outcome. Meaning they can move forward and work on themselves but also the relationship and it's going to be ok in the end 🤞🏻 i think everything else would go majorly against their characters and their wants and whats the point then? Then maggie could've just erased the storyline of Pynch altogether

my response: yes, yes, and yes to all of the above. i completely agree with all of you and i do think they will end up together at the end of it all (i would genuinely be shocked if they didn't, tbh) but what i'm unsure of, and am interested to see play out in the final book, is how/in what context all of this character development is going to take place. i'm hoping, as i mentioned in this post, that adam being trapped in dreamspace will play a major role and we'll see him and ronan reunite in there. it would force them to work together and to talk, and i really want to see them work out their issues in conversation. i'd much prefer that over some sort of off-page conflict resolution (which i don't think she would do, but still)

and, yeah, i do think part of it is just for the sake of suspense and keeping us hooked. she knows her audience and that we're going to be worried about pynch, lol. but i do think, as i mentioned here, that all of this quote-unquote relationship drama is also important for ronan's arc

the dreamer trilogy #2 theory

So. Batshit theory time. I think that there will be a significant time-skip between CDTH and TDT2. 

Okay, so hear me out. CDTH was release on Nov 5 and the book takes place in early November. The official release date for the sequel is May 18. That isn’t much to base it off of, except there’s more. 

Ronan, Hennessy, and Bryde yeeted out in early November 2013. If there’s a six month time-skip that places the beginning of TDT2 in May 2014. Why is May significant? Because May 18 is mid-May, which is when the majority of schools gets out. Based on things Maggie has teased on twitter, it appears that Adam will have a POV (yay!). In 2014, the Harvard school year ended on May 29. Which means Adam will be on break and be able to look for his AWOL boyfriend. I’m also really hoping we get a Matthew POV. Even if we don’t, his fictional high-school with probably be getting out around the 18th of May as well. So that frees up two characters’ schedules to be protagonists in a YA novel. 

Six months is a long time. It’s gonna suck for Ronan to be separated from his brothers and Adam, but a lot can happen in that time. Ronan will hopefully have taught Hennessy to pull things out of her dreams that won’t fucking kill her. There will be an established friendship between Ronan, Hennessy, and Bryde. Declan and Jordan could be six months into their (hopefully well-established) relationship, and happy (probably not) and in a good place (also probably not) besides worrying about Ronan and Hennessy 24/7 like the good siblings they are. Carmen, Lilianna, and the Moderators will probably haven been chasing the Dream Team™️ around all that time. Fingers still crossed for Carlianna to be a thing🤞

Another significant thing about May 2014 is that it will mark a year since the Gangsey graduated high-school. Y’all know what that means! The end of Gansey, Blue, and Henry’s travel year! This is a bit of a stretch, but I really, really want Bluchengsey to show up at the end of TDT2 and then play a larger role in TDT3. If they come in the end, depending on how long the period of time the book covers, I’m guessing it will be around the beginning of June. Their travel year will definitely be over by then. I also think that the end of TDT2 will end on a dreadful cliffhanger that leads directly into TDT3. If all this happens, that places TDT3 to take place in summer 2014. Adam and Matthew will be on break, Bluchengsey will be back from their extensive road trip, the Dream Team™️ will hopefully be reunited with the Lynches/Jordan/Gangsey, and the stars will align for an epic conclusion. 

I was trying to think of arguments against this theory, but the only one I could come up with was that Maggie might not want the characters to spend so much time apart. And idk if my heart can take pynch being separated that long. Maggie did post a song called “Black Magic” on twitter,  tagging it as Adam in TDT2. That has me thinking Adam gets desperate and goes to some considerably dangerous lengths to find Ronan. Awwww, but also yikesAdamHoneyPLeASeBeCarefUL, amiright?  

This, of course, could all be thrown off by one of the best predictions for TDT2 I've seen. In their CDTH Special Episode, @ravingirls (aka my favorite podcast literally ever🥰 Check them out if you haven’t already!) pointed out that we don’t get anything at all from Adam after he visits Ronan. Not even a text. We don’t know if he even made it back to school. They also said that if the Moderators knew where Matthew was they probably could track Adam down too. That would explain why Adam didn’t respond to Ronan’s text at the end (still crying over that shit, btw). Until I heard that theory, I had just assumed that everything was fine with Adam. I think the books ends only a day after Adam visits, although I could be totally wrong. Adam said that he had a quiz the next morning so I originally assumed that he spent the rest of the day driving back to Cambridge, then went immediately to bed, then had his phone off for the quiz, and had not yet checked it when Ronan texted. Also, doesn’t Ronan wait like 0.001 seconds for Adam to respond before yeeting off?? Also also, Maggie posted that she was editing TDT2 or somethin with a picture of her computer and there was a fragment of an Adam POV (!!!) bit in which he mentioned his roommate Fletcher, which makes me really hopeful that he did make it to school. Honestly though, who knows.
